This is our favorite recipe so far.
It's just from my favorite Betty Crocker Cookbook.
We always double this recipe.
If you're homemade ice cream maker has room, I suggest you triple it, It gets eaten fast.
3 large egg yolks
1/2 C. sugar
1 C. milk
1/4 t. salt
2 C. whipping cream (heavy) cream (We often use half and half, or 1 C. of heavy and 1/2 and 1/2.)
1 T. vanilla
Put a large empty bowl in your fridge so the bowl can become chilled.
Then, mix the egg yolks, sugar, milk, and salt in 2-qt. saucepan.
Cook over med. heat, stirring constantly, just to a boiling (DO NOT BOIL).
Refrigerate uncovered in your chilled bowl for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally, until room temp.
After the 2-3 hrs., stir in the whipping cream (or half/half) and vanilla into your milk mixture. Pour into ice cream maker and make according to your manufacturer's directions.
Warning:
We are purists, when it comes to our homemade ice cream.
We just make Vanilla.
(If you need gooey and chocolate, or fruity, just add the gooey and fruity on top - after you make it.)
We also love making homemade ice cream in a bag.
Super Easy and Fun.
Great for kids on a summer night. Great activity and it actually works!
Try it for Family Home Evening.
