Last December Lindy, competed in her school's Geography Bee for 4th-6th graders.
She had to win in her classroom,
and then had to compete with all the class winners to win for the school.
To our delight, she did!
She won a gigantic size National Geographic t-shirt in a men's size XL!
Very exciting.
Then she had to take a written test,
and score a certain % to qualify to compete at the state level.
Which she did!
Wow!
I was speechless and excited,
and wondered why I deserve to be her mom.
Last weekend, Chris and I drove Lindy
to Rexburg, Idaho to compete at the State Geography Bee
She was up against 84 other kids,
grades 4th-8th, from the state of ID.
They were all competing to make the
final 10, and then compete for 1st place to go to D.C.
They broke the 84 kids into smaller groups to test them.
Parents were not allowed to watch that round.
Torture.
She didn't make the top 10.
There were 8 rounds of questions.
She got 5/8 right.
The boy in her group got 7/8 to compete in the top 10.
It was fun and exciting to be a part of it all, for sure,
and to watch the top 10 winners compete.
The top 10 were all boys - but 1 girl, and 8 of the 10 were 7th graders +.
As we drove away, we wondered . . .
Do we try for next year?
Kyle's ready to take her on.
He can compete next year.
