An Easy Flower Garden

Pick a spot in your yard. Not too big. Start small. Buy a couple bags of mulch in the next month. (Cost: about $8 for 2 bags) The sooner the better. You can find mulch at big box stores, home depot or lowes. Dump bags on your spot. Do nothing else. You don't even have to wear garden gloves, dig in the dirt, or get into fancy chemical, fertilizing techniques. Go back inside and wait for warm weather. The mulch will do all the work for you.
I wait until May. Warm weather for my flowers is always after Mother's Day. The stores will trick you with outdoor flowers to buy in April. Around Easter. Ignore them. Wait a little more. Depending on your geography, for you it might be different. 70's is good, no more cold, cold, freezing nights.
Then go to any store, it doesn't have to be a fancy landscaping shop. Pick out some flowers that you love, they should already be blooming a little so you know if you like the colors. If annual & perennial is confusing to you. No worries, either will work. Just pick out a couple flowers you like. Then plant. Make sure they get sunshine, & water regularly. Send kids out to weed. The boys will pull flowers out with the weeds. oh well. They like to be in the dirt with you.
Then Enjoy! Not too much work, just a little fuss. Keep it small, for less fuss.
If you like go back to a store in about July, (Especially if kids have picked them out) pick out a couple more different flowers you like. Often they will bloom through fall.

Katie - Thank you! Last year I decided I should give this sort of thing a try for my poor bare backyard. Well, OK, it won't be bare for long. The weeds usually do their thing rather quickly. So I think this just may do the trick! Thank you! Tell me when you've done it so I won't forget!
