So, why don't you Sew?

I have a secret dream to sew things.
A couple years ago, Chris got me a sewing machine for my b-day.
Just recently I set up a place in my home for sewing.
But, that's as far as I've gotten. I haven't started sewing, the machine just sits.
It does inspire me, though. I like to look at my sewing machine.

I feel like I have to get through my mending, first;
before I begin any sewing projects.
This mending pile has been sitting around for years.
I don't like to look at this pile. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Silly me got the pattern pictured below about 3-4 years ago.
I thought, "I'll make doll clothes for Lindy. That would be nice."
It's been sitting around for years too. Nice try.

To be fair to myself I did help Lindy make this jean purse.
It was a spur of the moment impulse that we started in the fall together.
Then finished about 4 months later.  The project itself only took 2 Sat. afternoons.
One Sat. in the fall and another Sat. in the winter.
Not too bad, and she likes it, and learned a little about sewing.

We took a pair of her old jeans with holes in the knees.
Cut off the bottoms, and stitched the bottom of the jeans.
We took one pant leg, that we had cut off earlier; folded it in half and stitched up the sides.
Then sewed it to the purse, for the purse handle.
Lindy sewed on some buttons.

I have noticed there are a lot of sewing blogs out there.
I think sewing is becoming popular, trendy again. Which I think is cool.
Not sure if I will catch that trend, but that's okay. I can dream, and look at my sewing machine.

For those of you who do more than dream and have finished your mending pile,

Cute purse! What a great idea to do with old holy jeans! I don't sew at all. My kids get a rip or tear and immediately ask, "do you think grandma can fix it?". Yikes! I do have a REALLY cute pattern for a REALLY cute apron that I bought on etsy nearly 2 years ago. I still haven't found fabric that I like. Finding fabric - 2 years. Sewing apron - 5?

Lucky you to have a "space"!! Do your kids ever get into it?

To keep the kids out, there is a cover on it.
I keep it unplugged, and pushed back.
So far, they haven't even touched the thing.

I haven't thought about the kids and the spice drawer.
Hopefully it won't be a problem. If it is, then back up in the cupboard but at least it will be alphabetized.

I thought I left a comment here yesterday.....weird! I simply told you about my own mending solution--deliver to thrift store immediately! You'll feel much better and most likely you won't miss the items at all. Nagging pile--gone. Guilt--gone! Life is good!

Hi Katie
I hardly do my blog much these days, but I finally got around to visiting yours tonight... adorable! I love the "randomness" as you call it. I've been lurking at your back-blogs for half an hour here. Your kids are so cute! And, you make me hope to not ever have two boys in a row! ha! hope you were able to get in touch with Alicia? I'll be back to visit soon. Good luck with the sewing... I just found a new love of sewing, myself! highly recommend it.
